Isn't it CRAZY that it's JUNE?
I don't know where the spring went, and here we are, unofficially into Summer!

It's a good thing that we're still receiving some great yarns, books and fiber for our summer crafting -

Late last week we received some gorgeous batts from Hello Purl. These are super fun, and super colorful! Some will spin up in a more textured yarn and some smooth, but they're clearly marked. They are also made from a variety of fibers, including various wools, silks, angelina, and more. Can you say "Eye Candy"?

We also received a few more books for our book shelves:

- Scarlet by Kim Hargreaves features 21 classic designs.

- Knit Socks for All Seasons by Stephanie van der Linden has 20 all-new patterns, instructions, and great photos and charts.

- The Sock Knitter's Handbook by Charlene Schurch and Beth Parrott features expert advice, tips, tricks and instructions for all yoru sock knitting needs.

.....and we also received a new yarn from Rowan called Creative Linen. This is a blend of 50% cotton and 50% linen which is great for those summer tanks, tops and cardigans. It would also make up into a great market bag for the beach or farmer's market this summer! The 100 gram hank has 219 yards with a recommended gauge of 5.25 stitches per inch on a US #7 needle.

Good thing summer is just starting! I have LOTS of knitting and spinning to get done!

SPATS Tonight!

For those of you wondering what SPATS is, it stands for SPinning At The Shop. Bring in your wheel, drop spindle, fiber (or pick some up at the shop - one of the new batts that we just received would be fun), and get an hour or two of spinning time in!

I just wanted to remind everyone that we are open our normal business hours on Friday, Saturday and Sunday this holiday weekend, but we will be CLOSED on Monday, Memorial Day.

OK, this weekend is the kick off of summer, but we're already thinking ahead to the start of Fall with the new Fall issue of Noro Magazine!

We're loving the ChiaoGoo Red Lace Circular Needles so much that we've now added the 60" lengths to our inventory!

YES! Another order from Tanis Fiber Arts has arrived!

We have a new Tanis Fiber Arts yarn in the shop - her Red Label.

Red Label is a fingering weight single of 75% merino, 15% cashmere and 10% silk. Each 115 gram hank has 420 yards and is oh, so soft!

We also have another good sized order of Yellow Label too! Yellow Label is 100% superwash merino with 260 yards in each 115 gram hank. DK Weight.

Sock Yarn - You know it doesn't count, right?

We have a saying around the shop (and I'm sure many other yarn shops and sock knitters do too) that sock yarn doesn't count as stash. There's just something about the lure of the sock yarn that makes it so hard to resist picking up just one more skein, right? Plus, this time of year, socks are great projects to work on - very portable and small, and easy to pick up and put down, so great for your travel knitting project.

And, as luck would have it, we have a brand new sock yarn in from Opal -

This one is Opal Bicolor. It's a fun, self patterning sock yarn, so great to use for a plain vanilla sock. Let the yarn do all the impressive work for you.

I'll be back in the next day or so with a few more new yarns that have arrived!

Sneaking In Some Classes!

Just a quick post to let you know that we have added some more classes to the schedule!

Weaving is the hot new thing in the crafting world. Get started on a rigid heddle loom and find out how fun weaving is! Our Weaving 101 is starting up the first part of June. We do limit this class to 4 students, so if you are interested, let us know!

We've been all about the knitted Monsters in the shop lately! Are you wanting to take a class to learn how to make them and most importantly, how to properly assemble them? We've got a class on the schedule that is sure to be fun, fun, fun!

Socks are great warm weather projects and our ever popular Toe-Up Two-At-A-Time Sock Class is always a favorite.

If you've ever thought of learning how to spin your own yarn, but aren't quite ready to invest in a spinning wheel, why not learn how to spin on a drop spindle?

Check back as we're planning more fun classes this spring/summer!

Who doesn't love a great knitting project bag? I know I can never resist. Add an adorable peeping sheep and I think this is the cutest bag around!

Our first order of these bags flew out the door, but never fear - more showed up today! We have the pink (as pictured) and lime in stock right now, but act fast....I have a feeling this batch won't stick around for very long either. Coffee mugs are also back in stock too!

Lace, Lace, Lace!

It is definitely the time of year that we start thinking of lace on the needles - laceweight yarns as well as lace projects!

We received another order that has two different gradient lace weight yarns -

Lace Ball

If you're familiar with Zauberball (the fingering weight sock yarns), there is now Lace Ball! Each ball of yarn has 100 grams / 880 yards. Fun gradient colorways which will make a spectacular shawl of scarf. There are 6 different colorways to pick from.

We also have another gradient laceweight yarn that arrived today called Filigran. This is 100% merino, 100 grams with 660 yards per hank. A little more subtle since it has a tonal color change, but again, it will be stunning in a project.

Get those needles clicking for a nice spring/summer wrap!

If you're a fan of Berroco Vintage, you'll be happy to hear that Berroco has come out with a varigated version of this yarn called Vintage Colors and we happened to finally receive our order yesterday!

Berroco Vintage Colors is a worsted weight blend of 50% Acrylic, 40% Wool, and 10% Nylon. The recommended gauge for this one is 4.5 stitches per inch on US #8 needles. Each hank is 100 grams / 217 yards.

Great for gift knitting (it's machine washable, so you don't have to worry about the recipient tossing the item in the wash and having it felt up), great for childrens knits (nice and soft), and even great for baby knits!

It's a winner in my book!

Willow Cowl FO

For those of you that are on the fence about joining in on our KAL (or don't know what the Willow Cowl is) , I just finished up mine yesterday.

This is the 3rd Willow Cowl that I've knit, and I have to say that this one is my favorite! I used just under two skeins in Malabrigo Finito and it is the softest, warmest, squishiest cowl out of the bunch!

I can't say enough good things about the pattern and about the yarn. Both are wonderful. There's still plenty of time to join our KAL at the shop, so stop in if you have any questions or want us to get you started!

Willow Cowl KAL and Spinning Get Togethers!

We're wrapping up our Willow Cowl KAL with a wrap-up get-together scheduled for Monday, April 9th. Join us between 5:30 or 6 until 8 pm to show off your Willow Cowl, whether it is still on the needles or not! We'll be having a few snacks (please feel free to bring one to share), along with beverages too! (If you haven't started the Willow Cowl yet and are interested, check out our thread in our Ravelry group - there is still plenty of time to get one on the needles and maybe even finished by the wrap-up party, or stop on into the shop and we'll get you set up!).

We're also starting a Spinning At The Shop (SPATS) gathering on the first and third Monday evening of each month. I know many of you have some wheels getting dusty at home. Dust them off and bring them in for some spinning time (drop spindles too)! Let's start making some yarn again! Our first SPATS will be Monday, April 2nd from 6 - 8 pm. Join us.

Weaving II Class

So, you took our Learn to Weave class on the rigid heddle loom and now know how to direct warp your loom and how to weave a basic weave structure.

A new yarn from Malabrigo has arrived at the shop - Finito!

Finito is a fingering weight yarn that comes from the finest Uruguayan wool available in commercial volumes. It only comes to market once a year in limited quantities. Available in 50 gram hanks of 200 yards, this is a luxuriously soft yarn of 100% superfine merino wool. You'll definitely want to wear this one next to your skin!

I'll try to get photos up in the next day or so, but we have it out on the shelves to fondle for our locals!
