Preparing for Fall Classes!

Have you looked at the calendar lately?  Here we are at the last day of July.  The State Fair commercials are running on TV and for me that is a sure sign that summer is quickly winding down!

We're starting to think Fall at the shop - new fall yarns have started to arrive with SO MUCH MORE arriving soon!

We're also starting to schedule our Fall Classes at the shop!

While we have many more coming, I did want to highlight a few that we already have on the schedule:

Moebius Cowl Recipe Class - Class meets Thursdays, Aug. 8th and Aug. 15th from 6 - 8 pm.
Once you master the Moebius Cast-On, there will be no stopping the cowls that you'll be able to make!  Sign up for our two session class, pick out your yarn and long circular needle and pick and choose your stitch patterns for a fabulous cowl!
We're including a copy Skacel's "Magalog" (part Magazine, part Catalog) for you when you register for the class to give you ideas and options for your cowl.  I have a feeling that you'll be making cowls for your holiday gift giving once you get a taste of how fun these are!   Click here to register.

Magic Loop Socks - Class meets Mondays, Sept. 9th, 16th and 23rd from 6 - 8 pm.

Learn how to "Magic Loop" and get your feet wet knitting a fun pair of socks using Liberty Wool or other worsted weight yarn.  You'll learn everything you need to know to knit a pair of cuff down socks and also be able to apply the "magic loop" method of circular knitting to other applications including hats, sweater sleeves and so much more.  Click here to register.

Rigid Heddle Weaving 101 - Class meets Saturdays, Sept. 14th and September 21st.

Maybe you've heard how popular weaving is becoming.  With the popularity of rigid heddle looms, you can learn how to weave quickly and easily!  Jump in with our class for beginning weaving - no experience necessary.  You'll learn how to warp your loom and weave a two color hounds tooth weave structure.  At the end of class, you'll have a great scarf to keep for yourself or to give as a much loved gift!  (No loom purchase is required.  We also offer loom rentals for the duration of the class.)  Register here.

Stay tuned.......More to come!

Feels Like Fall!

I know I'll probably take some heat for this comment, but I am loving the cool weather that we have today!  It reminds me of early Fall - my favorite time of year!

And since I've already said the "F" word (FALL!), I might as well talk about some new Fall yarns that have just arrived at the shop -

First up is Hikoo's Kenzie!

Kenzie is a great, somewhat tweedy looking yarn with a blend of 50% New Zealand Merino, 25% Nylon, 10% Angora, 10% Alpaca and 5% Silk Noils.  It knits up at a DK/Light Worsted gauge with a recommended gauge of 5 stitches per inch on a US 6 - 8 needle.  I've swatched it on both size 6 and 7 needles and it is lovely!!!  160 yards per 50 grams on each skein.

Skacel has a few free patterns available on their website, but if you've been following their The Fiber Factor, you'll know that this is the yarn for the designers' current challenge!  I'm so excited to see what these designers come up with for this yarn!!!   Me?.....I'm going to start a sweater using it (the reason for my gauge swatches mentioned above.), but think I'll also be knitting a colorwork cowl.  Hmmmm.....maybe this will be the August KAL for the shop!

We also have received some new, fun colors in Trekking XXL -

Sometimes there is nothing better and nothing more soothing then just knitting some simple, stockinette, plain Jane vanilla socks.  This yarn is perfect for that!  Some of these colors are going fast, but no fear.....I already have more ordered, so if you are taking a liking to any of these, let me know!
