Squishy and oh, so Soft!

I've been anxious for this new yarn to arrive in the shop!  Now, personally, I am not a huge fan of knitting with cotton.  It is usually pretty hard on my hands since there is no give to the yarn.

But, I think I have found my new favorite cotton yarn!
Rowan's Softknit Cotton is a blend of 92% cotton and 8% Poly and has a recommended gauge of 5 stitches per inch on a US #7 needle.  The yarn in the ball is super soft, and with the chainette type of construction, the yarn is nice and light weight and should be fabulous to knit with!  Texture stitches and cables will be sure to "pop" too.

Pattern support, you ask?  Of course!  We have two brand new books just in featuring great designs by Martin Storey.  One book has a little more intricate trans-seasonal patterns using aran designs and textured stitches, but we also have a new book that features more simple styles and would be great for the beginning sweater knitter.

Stop on in to check out this great new yarn and the fun colors available!

Summer Dreamin'

On a cold day in Minnesota, it's nice to get a delivery of spring/summer yarns!  Today we received some of our Berroco order for spring and it's like opening up boxes of summer.

One of the new yarn offerings from Berroco is Floret.  Floret is a blend of cotton/acrylic.  This ultra-soft, colorfully plied yarn will sure to be a favorite for summer tops and accessories.
I think this pattern knit from Floret is so adorable and would be so comfortable to wear.  (Design is from the Floret pattern booklet - in stock also!)  Knits up to a recommended gauge of 4.75 stitches per inch on a US 8 needle.

Next is Karma - Karma is dyed in a range of softly shaded hues (reminds me of a kettle-dyed yarn).  The intriguing mesh construction of this machine washable cotton tape gives it an airy quality, so even though it is a chunky yarn, it doesn't have a chunky yarn weight.
I love this cute cowl knit from Karma.  What a great accessory piece it would be.  (From the Berroco Karma pattern booklet - in stock too!)

New colors of Berroco Sox (100 gram skein of sock yarn at an incredibly affordable price), and some new colors of Ultra Alpaca round out the rest of this order, along with the new Norah Gaughan booklet for spring/summer.

Snow....with a chance of Spring!

It's that time of year - we're longing for warmer weather and sunny skies, but the prediction is for more snow.

Even though there is still plenty of winter left, we're starting to gear up for spring in the shop!  I've met with my reps and the yarns are ordered and we should be getting lots of fun boxes in the next few weeks.

One spring yarn that has arrived and is out on the shelves is Cascade's Ultra Pima Paints!
Cascade's Ultra Pima yarn has been a staple in the shop since it's introduction several years back, and now they've introduced a handpainted version of the same yarn.  This is 100% Pima Cotton, with a recommended gauge of 22 - 24 stitches per inch on a US 5 - 6 needle.  Plus, Cascade has lots of free patterns online that would work great with this yarn.  I see a "Summer Waves Cardi" on the horizon for my spring/summer knitting!

The promise of warmer weather always brings out the lace knitter in me.  How about you?  We have restocked on Malabrigo Lace, Silkpaca, and various others (including a cobweb lace from Jamieson and Smith), and just received a new colorway in Filigran -
This one has long color runs, so it will knit up as a gradient (not a variegated).  100% Wool, super soft and a great amount of yardage in each hank - 660 yards!

We've received yet another from Jamieson and Smith, so we're very well stocked in their 2 ply Jumper Weight yarn as well as their Shetland Supreme.  I'm working on getting all the colors online as we speak.  I have a good chunk done, but there is still more to be posted.

The Jamieson and Smith 2 Ply Jumper Weight yarn is excellent for colorwork and for steeking.  Our first class offering for colorwork/steeking filled so fast that we decided to add a second one to the schedule.

Learn everything you need to know about steeking and colorwork while you knit up this darling tea cozy!  You can check out the details and dates here, but please give me a call if you have any questions.
